Morocco Trip🇲🇦

The other week, our college took a 3-night class trip to Morocco. We went to Tangier and Chefchaouen. The great part about studying abroad in Sevilla and attending ICS is that they have a whole bunch of trips that are included in your tuition.

The first day was mostly a travel day, we took too many bus rides, and a ferry ride to get to Africa, and had to wait way too long at the Moroccan border. We also walked around Tangier and rode on some camels, which was the highlight of the trip for some of my friends (Adam).

Because we went out the night before, my buddy Brendan slept through his alarm and missed our bus. Instead of missing out on the trip, he decided to try to figure out how to get to our hotel in Chefchaouen on his own. Through a combination of BlahBlah Cars, Taxis, and a Ferry, he was able to get to our hotel around midnight. This is especially impressive, considering his Spanish and Arabic speaking skills are not that good.

One thing I enjoyed about Morocco, in particular, is that you have to barter for everything. While some people may not like this very much, I had a great time with it. I'm not even a big shopper, but because of the cheap prices and the bartering, I bought a good amount of stuff. With some haggling, I bought a full linen outfit (which I have since ripped 😔), 2 Moroccan Rugs (I have no idea how I'm gonna get them home), and a matching "drug rugs" with my friends (picture below) for just over 100 dollars.

Some other quick fun things about our time in Morocco

  • So many cats! You couldn't go one block without running into at least five cats or kittens. I was scared to pet them because I didn't want to have to get a rabies shot, but man, were they cute.

  • We went to a holistic pharmacy where they had a whole bunch of alternative medicines and stuff, I bought some Argon oil. Since Morocco is the only place in the world that produces it, it is stupid cheap to buy it here. I bought a small bottle for 8 euros, which would normally be over 50 dollars in the States. (I have been putting in on my face and hair, and I plan on buying more when I go back to Morocco/ Sahara desert in December)

  • My Friends got "Married" in Morocco. Not actually, but they put on a fake Moroccan wedding for them, which was super funny.

This is the Moroccan wedding, congrats to the newly weds, Lola and Brendan!

Waiting for the ferry, this guy was talking about how he loved Western movies and cowboys. Good Spanish practice

I can't overstate how many cats there were here

    Un Gatito!
